The Bajaj Nagar Residents Association has raised its voice against alleged illegal sewer lines joining the stormwater drainage channels and congestion on the road between PKV Hostel and VNIT Square on Central Bazar Road.
The residents of Bajaj Nagar under the Laxmi Nagar Zone have been facing problems due to foul smells due to the illegal joining of sewer lines and drain water channels. Their grievances fell on deaf ears of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation authorities for the last two decades. The Bajaj Nagar Residents Association complained to the Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Avinash Chaudhari, following which a meeting of the Association with NMC authorities was convened.
Executive Engineer Bondhane, Deputy Executive Engineer Gautam, and other officials were present at the meeting. Junior Engineer Saraf was summoned, who confessed that such an illegal connection had not been examined. The workers of the Sewage department misled the residents that it was due to overflow from the main sewage line. The residents handed over a video related to the illegal connection in support of their grievances.
The issue related to the narrowing of the Central Bazar Road due to encroachment by food vendors and parking of vehicles at these eateries and tea stalls. Instead of removing the encroachment the road for vehicular traffic was shrunk by about 15 feet for cycling tracks, the Association alleged. The importance of PKV land, which is a laboratory for field experiments has been ignored while planning road works.
The Association also held discussions with other senior officials of NMC. The minutes of the meetings were also submitted to the Municipal Commissioner.
The meeting was convened by Sunita Yawalkar Mudaliar in her office and attended by prominent residents of Bajaj Nagar and NMC authorities.
Action on the part of NMC on the issues is awaited.
