In the latest developments from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), former Indian cricket team openers Gautam Gambhir and W V Raman were interviewed on Tuesday by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for the prestigious role of India’s head coach.
The interviews were conducted over a virtual Zoom call, with Gambhir, Raman, and CAC head Ashok Malhotra participating remotely. Sources close to the BCCI revealed that Gambhir, who is seen as the frontrunner for the position, had a detailed discussion with the committee. Another round of discussions is expected to take place shortly.
“W V Raman was also interviewed following Gautam Gambhir. Both candidates presented their vision and roadmap for Indian cricket,” a source familiar with the proceedings mentioned. The interview process reportedly lasted approximately 40 minutes, including initial questions from the committee members.
While Gambhir appears to be the leading contender, the formal announcement is pending and expected within the next 48 hours. Details of his interaction with CAC chairman Ashok Malhotra and committee members Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik have not been disclosed yet.
The BCCI continues its deliberations as it nears a decision on who will take over the reins as India’s head coach, a role crucial for guiding the team through upcoming challenges and tournaments.
