Heavy rains on Monday revealed the poor quality of work done by contractors for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The sewage line project in Boriyapura is a clear example. Only two months ago, the contractor installed a new slab for the sewage line from Gardline Under Bridge to Boriyapura Chowk. However, the heavy rains on Monday evening caused this slab to collapse, leading to severe water overflow onto the streets.
Local residents allege that the contractor failed to properly clean the sewage system and merely laid the slab before abruptly halting the work. Social worker Zulfikar Ahmed Shanu reported the issue to the zone officer, who confirmed that the work was incomplete and additional sewage pipes still need to be installed.
However, officials have remained silent on the matter of the slab collapsing within just two months. Residents are demanding an investigation into the contractor’s work and insist that the officials who awarded the contract should also be held accountable.
