A tragic hit-and-run incident in Wathoda claimed the life of three-year-old Hasina Sitaram Bagdiya, marking the third victim. The incident occurred early Monday morning, June 17, when a car driven by a drunk engineering student collided with a family of nine sleeping on the pavement near Dighori Chowk under Wathoda Police Station.
The driver, Bhushan Naresh Lanjewar, crashed into the victims with his Verna car (MH/46/AX/8497), resulting in the deaths of Kantibai Gajod Bagdiya (42) and Sitaram Babulaal Bagdiya (30) on the spot. Several others, including Kavita Sitaram Bagdiya (28), Bulku Sitaram Bagdiya (8), Sakina Sitaram Bagdiya (1.5 years), Hanuman Khajod Bagdiya (35), Vikram alias Bhusha Hanuman Bagdiya (10), and Panbai Mansingh Bawariya (15), sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital. Tragically, Hasina Sitaram Bagdiya succumbed to her injuries on Thursday.
In response, Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Singal took action on Wednesday and suspended Senior Police Inspector Vijay Dighe, who was in charge of Wathoda Police Station, for not doing his duty properly. Senior PI Dighe, who was investigating the case, was criticized for mishandling it, including not collecting important forensic evidence and delaying the medical examination of the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police had received multiple complaints against Dighe prior to his suspension.
