Polling on June 26, Counting on July 1
The elections for four Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) seats is likely to be interesting. The polling for the seats will be held in June 26, with as many as 55 candidates are in the fray. Out of the four two seats are from the Graduates Constituency and two from Teachers Constituency.
The biennial elections to the Legislative Council from Graduates Constituency will be held from Mumbai and Konkar region and two from Graduates Constituency from Mumbai and Nashik. A total of 4.29 lakh voters will decide the fate of the candidates. The counting of votes will be held on July 1. The term of four candidates ends on July 7 against which the elections are being held.
Former Minister Anil Parab of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Kiran Shelar of BJP are pitted against each other in the Mumbai Graduates Constituency. The total number of voters in this constituency is 1,20,771, including 71,010 men and 49,755 women and six transgenders are among the voters.
Sitting MLC Niranjan Davkhare of BJP is seeking another term from the Konkan Graduates Constituency. He is facing a direct contest against the Congress candidate Ramesh Keer. There are 13 candidates in the fray from this constituency. The total number of voters in the Konkan region is 2.23.408, including 1.27,769 men and 95,611 women and 28 other categories (Transgenders).
In Mumbai Teachers Constituency the contest may be interesting. J M Abhyankar of Shiv Sena (UBT), Shivaji Nalawade of NCP, BJP-supported independent candidate Shivnath Darade and Shivaji Shendge an independent candidate supported by Shiv Sena (Shinde) are in the fray. 15,839 voters will decide the fate of these candidates.
