Since the start of the monsoon on June 1, Maharashtra has experienced an average rainfall of 141 millimeters, constituting 68% of the seasonal average. Among the 25 districts, 165 talukas have received rainfall surpassing the average, notably in Marathwada, Western Vidarbha, and Western Maharashtra.
Currently, Kharif crop sowing covers 3.83 million hectares, about 24% of the average sowing area. However, four districts in Eastern Vidarbha and 17 talukas in Nandurbar and Palghar have received less than 25% of the average rainfall, impacting paddy cultivation in Konkan and Eastern Vidarbha.
Even though the monsoon arrived on time, it’s been moving slowly. As a result, 146 areas in the state got less than 75% of the usual rainfall. In Nagpur, only 2.71% of sowing is done, and in Konkan, it’s just 3.09%.
Furthermore, 61 areas received rainfall between 25% and 50% of the usual, and 68 areas got between 50% and 75%. Meanwhile, 53 areas had rainfall ranging from 75% to 100% of the average.
