People are facing traffic congestion due to the closure of the road between Ambazari overflow and Dharampeth Science college due to construction of bridge.
For smoother traffic movement, the administration should permit commuters to use the road inside Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT). Access can be granted through VNIT’s Yashwant Nagar gate, allowing passage to the institution’s main gate near the IT park. This suggestion was made to the district administration and civic body by Dr. Parineeta Fuke, former corporator.
In a letter addressed to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation Administrator, Commissioner, and District Collector, Dr. Fuke stated, “At present the traffic has been divert- ed to LAD square. People move from LAD square, go towards Abhyankar Nagar, then towards Matey chowk.
As a result, traffic has become chaotic. Instead, traffic should be routed through VNIT’s Yashwant Nagar gate within the institution. Commuters can travel through VNIT and reach the main gate near the IT park. From there, people can proceed directly to Matey Square. Dr. Fuke believes that implementing this plan can prevent traffic congestion and possible accidents.
“The citizens have to suffer due to traffic jams daily. To add to their woes, there is a heavy work of laying of huge pipelines is underway on the road between LAD chowk and Abhyankar Nagar. This is resultingi traffic jams and minor accidents on the road. Now rainy season is round the corner. If the pipeline laying work remained incomplete then again it will become a major obstacle for smooth traffic movement,” explained Dr Fuke.
According to Dr Fuke, she has requested VNIT to allow the traffic movement. In case the institution says no, then the district adminis- tration can intervene and ask VNIT to do so under Disaster Management Act 2005, demanded Dr Fuke.
