In response to recent criticism from the High Court, Nagpur’s Traffic Department has promptly increased enforcement measures. Within a mere two days, the department cracked down on 2,441 auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws for breaching rules related to passenger limits and parking.
Led by DCP Traffic Shashikant Satav, the Nagpur Traffic Department launched a focused crackdown starting June 25, 2024. This operation specifically targeted auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers who were caught carrying more passengers than allowed or causing disturbances through improper parking.
The strict measures aim to reduce traffic congestion and enhance commuting conditions throughout Nagpur. Authorities have emphasized that e-rickshaws are strictly prohibited from operating on major highways and key routes, including Wadi to Sitabuldi, Sitabuldi to CA Road, Sitabuldi to Kamptee Road, Sitabuldi to Chatrapati Square, Sitabuldi to Hingna, Sitabuldi to Katol Naka, Sitabuldi to Saoner Road, Sitabuldi to Nandanvan, Sitabuldi to Hudkeshwar, and Sitabuldi to Besa, as well as all national highways and flyovers.
This ongoing enforcement initiative highlights the department’s dedication to improving traffic flow and maintaining public safety in Nagpur.
