The city is still experiencing a dry spell despite five days of rain last week, which marked the official start of the monsoon. With no rain expected and despite the overcast weather, residents are enduring hot and humid conditions.
On Wednesday, intense sunlight and scattered clouds increased humidity levels, causing people to wipe sweat from their foreheads. Although monsoon clouds are expected to cover the skies for the rest of June, rain might not follow. The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for all districts of Vidarbha for the next five days.
On Wednesday, daytime temperatures rose to 37.6 degrees Celsius, which is 4 degrees above normal. Morning humidity levels reached 65%, making the hot weather unbearable for city residents.
Nighttime temperatures also climbed to 26 degrees Celsius. According to the meteorological department, the monsoon line has moved past Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and is now advancing towards northern India. Cyclonic circulation is forming over the Bay of Bengal and central India, leading to cloudy skies. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation extending from Gujarat to eastern Vidarbha has caused clouds to appear in the sky.
Due to the lack of rain in Vidarbha districts, temperatures are rising. Brahmapuri recorded the highest temperature at 40.2 degrees Celsius. No district in Vidarbha has reported any rainfall. Although Nagpur had clouds in the sky, there was no rainfall. So far, Vidarbha has received 106.1 mm of rainfall, which is 19% below the average for this period. Normally, 131.2 mm of rain is expected during this time.
