In a commanding display of bowling prowess, South Africa defeated Afghanistan in the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad.
After participating in 18 World Cups over a span of 32 years, the South African men’s cricket team has finally secured a spot in the final. Chasing a modest target of 57 runs, the Proteas swiftly reached their destination in just 8.5 overs. They will make their inaugural appearance in a T20 World Cup final on Saturday in Barbados, while India and England vie for the remaining spot in the second semi-final.
Earlier in the match, Tabraiz Shamsi and Marco Jansen each claimed three wickets, restricting Afghanistan to a paltry total of 56 runs. This marked the lowest score ever recorded by a team in a T20 World Cup semi-final. South Africa’s outstanding bowling performance effectively ended Afghanistan’s remarkable journey in the tournament and secured their first victory in eight short-format World Cup semi-finals since 1992.
