The Government Dental College recently conducted a special “Best Out of Waste” activity, showcasing an innovative approach to sustainability by utilizing empty paint buckets, which were used for painting the college premises, as plant containers. This unique initiative, organized by the NSS Unit, Nature Club and Department of Public Health Dentistry aimed to promote environmental awareness, encourage recycling and enhance the college’s aesthetics
Dr. Abhay Datarkar, the Dean of the college, highlighted the importance of trees in fighting climate change and the value of recycling materials. The event saw active participation from 53 first-year BDS students, 9 interns from the Public Health Dentistry department, and 14 faculty members. Together, they planted various tree saplings in the repurposed buckets. A dedicated team of student volunteers has been assigned to regularly water and monitor the plants. The gardening team will ensure the saplings thrive and contribute to the college’s greenery. This plantation effort not only improved the college’s appearance but also fostered environmental awareness among students. It underscores our collective responsibility toward nature and showcases how small, creative actions can promote environmental conservation.
The activity was inaugurated by Dean Dr. Abhay Datarkar, who emphasized the importance of tree plantation and sustainability. Dr. Shilpa Warhekar, Associate Professor from the Department of Public Health Dentistry, provided a brief introduction on the environmental benefits of trees and the significance of recycling materials. Dr. Khadikar, Dr. Kalaskar, Dr. Sachin Khatri, Dr. Chauhan, Dr. Motghare, NSS Incharge Dr. Vandana Gadve, Nature Club Incharge Dr. Damyanti Walkey, Dr. Noopur Kokane, Dr. Aniket Dhote, Dr. Jyoti Manchanda, and Dr. Shweta Gangotri were also present during the event.
