After a three-day break since schools reopened under the State board, students are set to hit the ground running. The Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur football ground will witness action-packed matches starting Thursday as the District Sports Office launches the Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament across various age groups.
With the enthusiasm akin to the ongoing Euro and Copa America tournaments, young school-going footballers are eager to showcase their skills learned from their favorite international players.
The tournament’s opening day will feature fierce competition among Under-17 girls from various schools. Delhi Public School, Kamptee and School of Scholars, Beltarodi will kickstart proceedings at 9 am in the district level tournament, followed by Jain International versus Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir, Ashti at 10 am. The action continues with Delhi Public School, Lava facing off against Podar International at 10.30 am, and K John, Pipla competing with Pragatik Vidyalaya, Koradi at 11 am.
In the NMC level competition, Centre Point School, Katol Road will meet St Joseph’s Convent at 12 noon, followed by Centre Point School, Wardhaman Nagar versus St Vincent Pallotti girls at 12.30 pm. Title contenders St Ursula girls will start their campaign against Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir, Srikrishna Nagar at 1 pm, while Narayana Vidyalayam takes on Centre Point School, Dabha at 1.30 pm.
The tournament will progress with the semi-finals scheduled for Friday and finals on Saturday for both categories. Additionally, the Under-17 boys (NMC) matches will commence on Friday at the same venue, with six knockout matches scheduled. The quarter-finals will follow on Sunday, and the semi-finals and final will be played on Monday, July 8th.
