In a tragic event, a six-year-old girl died from electrocution in the washroom of Zilla Parishad Senior Primary School in Puyar village, Bhandara district. The incident occurred around 10 AM on Wednesday, which was the third day of the new academic session.
Yashaswi Sopan Raut (6), who had recently started attending first grade at the school, was a regular attendee from the first day. Tragically, while using the school washroom, she accidentally touched a live aluminum coil wire connected to a sanitary pad disposal machine and died instantly.
When other girl students noticed found Yashaswi lying on the floor, they immediately informed it to school teachers. They immediately rushed her to Lakhandur Rural Hospital, but medical officers declared her dead. Meanwhile, sensation prevailed as the news spread in the village and area like a wildlife and parents thronged the school to know the status of their children. Yashaswi’s parents and villagers expressed anguish over the incident.
Due to the large crowd near the school, police were deployed to the scene. Officer Sachin Pawar from Lakhandur police station, along with other senior police officers, visited the spot and conducted panchnama. Education depart- ment officials also rushed to the school.
Following the incident, In-charge Headmaster Nilkanth Bhave has been suspended. Acting on the orders of the Bhandara Zilla Parishad CEO, Block Development Officer Namita Bangar from the Lakhandur Panchayat Samiti took immediate action to suspend him under section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
The incident has highlighted glaring negligence on the part of the school administration. A sanitary pad dispenser and disposal machine installed on the washroom wall was powered by a live aluminium coiled wire. Shockingly, this live wire was left exposed on the washroom floor. Tragically, the girl came into contact with the wire while using the facilities, resulting in her immediate death. Her last rites were conducted on Wednesday evening.
