The regional meteorological department has forecast continuous rainfall in Vidarbha, including Nagpur, although the intensity remains mild thus far. Expectations are for light to moderate rainfall over the next two days, with heavy rain expected from July 7 onward. Presently, conducive weather systems are active across Maharashtra and elsewhere in the nation, with the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) system also active. This is causing monsoon rains from both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal branches to affect Maharashtra and Vidarbha, likely leading to heavy rainfall soon.
Despite the monsoon remaining active over the past eight to ten days, consistent heavy rainfall has been lacking, except for a significant downpour on the night of June 30. Since then, the intensity of rainfall has decreased. Although there has been continuous rain, it has not reached the expected heaviness. Wednesday night, July 3, saw substantial rainfall, totaling 31.1 mm by 5 am. However, Thursday did not experience heavy rain, with only light drizzles causing a daytime temperature drop to 30.9 degrees Celsius in the city. The meteorological department forecasts moderate rainfall over the next two days.
