Passengers aboard the Mumbai-bound Vidarbha Express had a fortunate escape on Sunday when the vigilant loco pilot applied emergency brakes upon noticing missing tracks in the Kasara ghat section of Mumbai’s Central Railway Division. Train No. 12106, which departed from Nagpur on Saturday and was headed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), encountered damage to the track embankment.
This damage was caused by landslides following heavy rains, disrupting the movement of long-distance trains on the Mumbai-Howrah route.
Train No. 12140 Nagpur-CSMT Sewagram Express that left Nagpur on Saturday was short terminated at Devlali station and returned to Nagpur. The train could not move forward as the route was submerged and it was at risk to start train operations.
The railway team was on spot getting information about the heavy rains and its repercussions.
After slogging out in heavy rains for hours, the railway manpower opened the route for train movement and priority was given to local trains. Hence long distance passenger carrying trains were short terminated near Nasik railway station and returned from there to resume their journey.
