THE Department of Mass Communication, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) is implementing modernised career- oriented syllabi for the one-year Bachelor of Journalism (BJ), two-year M.A. (Mass Communication) and one-year P.G.Diploma in Video Programming courses it offers. Admissions are currently open to the courses for which graduates from any discipline can apply.
The media has been expanding for the past few years. Along with print media, the scope and opportunities in TV, digital and social media are increasing. In tune with those, many important changes have been made in the curriculum. Along with the theoretical knowledge, the curriculum focuses on practical training as per the requirements of the mass media industry and the National Education Policy (NEP2020), stated a press release issued by the department.
The career-oriented subjects in the revamped syllabus include Mobile Journalism, Corporate Communication and Public Relations, Integrated Marketing Communication, Advertising, Social Media, Web Design, Media Laws, TV, Radio, Video Production, Photography, Communication Skills, Communication Research, Data Journalism, Script Writing (Radio & TV) and Environmental Communication.
Senior professionals working in the print, electronic and and digital news media, advertising, PR and Corporate Communications and related areas of the media industry engage lectures and guide the students. This curriculum is designed by industry experts to develop skills among the students. All three courses have month-long Industry Internship Programmes so that students can get hands-on industry experience in newspapers, news channels, advertising agencies, Government PR departments, etc. Also there are many job and self- employment options available after completion of the programmes.
