St. John’s High School, Mohan Nagar, and MM Rabbani School, Kamptee, claimed victory in the Subroto Mukherjee Under-17 Boys Football Competition held at the football ground of Divisional Sports Complex in Mankapur on Friday.
In the NMC level final, St John’s High School narrowly defeated their arch rivals, St Francis de Sales, with a lone goal to clinch the title. The decisive goal was scored by Shayan Khan in the seventh minute of the match.
After taking an early lead in the game, the team coached by Savio Andrew effectively defended their goal throughout the match. In a tense final, Narayana Vidyalayam emerged victorious over Bhavan’s Srikrishna Nagar with a 5-4 win in the tie-breaker. Narayana’s goals came from Amog Kondywar, Ayush Kade, Shouraya Chaudhary, Samya Charde, and Mayank Khabalkar, while Rohan Bhuti, Dev Chugh, Shlok Kutemate, and Vansh Ponda scored for Bhavan’s.
In the Under-17 competition (outside city limits), Rabbani School secured the title by defeating Ira International with a 2-0 scoreline.
Mohd Umar gave a perfect start for the Kamptee-based school by scoring in the 7th minute of play. Four minutes later, Mohd Alfishan extended their lead. In the second half, Rabbani focused on their defense to emerge winners.
In the third place match, K John from Asoli edged out Delhi Public School, Lava, with a 1-0 victory, scoring the winning goal. in the 28th minute. St John’s have a chance to win twin titles while SFS will look to aveng- ing the defeat as both the teams will clash again in the Under- 15 age category on Saturday.
In the NMC level semi-final, St John’s had to endure a tough battle to defeat Centre Point School, Katol Road, 5-4 on penalties. After a goalless match, St John’s successfully converted all five of their penalty kicks, while Centre Point School managed to score four goals.
