Traffic snarls in the Sadar area are causing tremendous headaches for commuters due to closed traffic signals and the absence of traffic cops. While the police have blamed hawkers and illegal parking, prolonged construction work and delays, along with the lack of police presence on the street, are perhaps being deliberately ignored. Whether it’s Gaddigodam Square or the Link Road connecting Gaddigodam to Sadar, illegal parking continues unabated. Adding to the woes under such severe conditions is the lack of police presence in the area.
The traffic problems in the city have worsened over the years due to the prolonged construction work and resulting delays. Despite public outcry, both the administration and police have been remained silent observers. This prompted the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court to come to the rescue of the people. Following its criticism, the Nagpur traffic department has started working with renewed vigor to address the issues.
Local residents and business owners have expressed their frustration, stating that the daily gridlock is affecting their livelihoods. Many have called for immediate action to clear the illegal parking and improve traffic management. Some have even suggested implementing stricter penalties for violations and increasing the number of traffic personnel during peak hours to ensure smoother traffic flow.
