“This is not the first year of trouble and issues at the portal. In earlier years as well, the similar types of issues were faced by the taxpayers. The CBDT needs to learn from the past mistake and need to innovate and renovate in its working so as to avoid the last-minute trouble at the portal” mentioned by Vishal Agrawal, President – VIA.
The trouble in filing the income tax return is a cause of serious concern for the taxpayers. The finance ministry needs to ensure that the portal is well placed from 1st April itself. For tax payment, the option to shift from OLTAS to ITD is a good move as it allows the tax credit on an instant basis. However, the technical glitches over the portal are making it futile. Now even after the tax payment is done & amount is debited to the bank account, the challan is not getting generated and taxpayers have to wait for 3-4 days to even view the Challan number and date. For this, the return has to be kept on hold” remarked Prashant Mohota, Hon. Secretary – VIA
“Taxpayers now cannot file the income tax return till 1st week of June as TDS Returns, SFT returns and other compliances have the due date of 31st May. Effectively, taxpayers have only 45 days to file the income tax return. The issue is further aggravated by the fact that there are often mistakes in AIS and the reporting entities take time to rectify the same after giving the feedback by the taxpayers. With the present issue at the portal, the filing may be troublesome. The portal needs to ensure seamless filing of the income tax return”, CA Ashok Chandak, Chairman – VIA Taxation & Corporate Law Forum.
“Filing the income tax return has now become all the more time consuming in view of the data from multiple sources which is required to be collected and verified before filing the income tax return. Further, now almost every taxpayer has transactions of shares and mutual funds. Even the crypto transactions are an added transaction by many young taxpayers. In view of all this, the technical glitches enhance the trouble of taxpayers while filing the ITR” – CA Naresh Jakhotia, Vice President – VIA.
