Gosekhurd dam gates opened, alert sounded
All 33 gates of Bhandara district’s Gosekhurd have been opened. An alert to villagers residing on the banks of rivers has been sounded. Opening of the gates would result in flooding of rivers and many areas near them.
Three of the 33 gates have been opened up to 1 metre, while 30 to half metre. About 1.13 lakh litre of water is being released from Gosekhurd dam. The gates were required to be opened following very heavy rains in East Vidarbha region. The rivers and canals are overflowing.
The bridge between Lakhandur and Arjuni-Morgaon in Gondia district has been closed as the canal is overflowing. . Traffic on Asgaon to Dholasar in Paoli taluka; Palandur to Tai in Lakhni taluka were closed as water is flowing over the bridges on canals.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Bhandara district.
GONDIA: Heavy rains lashed Gondia district since Friday night. Devri and Arjuni-Mrogaon talukas were badly affected by the rains. The incomplete work of the bridge connecting Keshori and Chicholi villages also affected the villagers. The alternative road created for the construction work was closed following heavy rains. The educational institutions were closed and agricultural operations came to a halt.
CHANDRAPUR: Heavy rains continued in Chandrapur district. The water level n Irai dam has increased and the dam’s gates may be opened. The authorities have alerted the villagers near the banks of canals and rivers connected to the dams.
