Intense rainfall since the early hours of Saturday, July 20, has caused rainwater to flood the Sonegaon Police Station in Nagpur, adding to the city’s widespread disruptions. The heavy downpour has brought Maharashtra’s second capital to a standstill, causing severe waterlogging across multiple areas and significantly disrupting daily activities.
Ironically, while the Nagpur Police are tasked with providing protection and safety to citizens, they found themselves vulnerable to the elements as the Sonegaon Police Station was inundated by the floodwaters. The flooding exposed the challenges faced by the police force in maintaining their operations and safeguarding their premises during such severe weather conditions.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials were dispatched to various locations to manage the situation. Manish Nagar Underpass and Shankar Nagar Square were particularly affected, with flooding causing major traffic halts. Several other areas in the city also faced similar issues, making commuting extremely difficult for residents.
The impact of the heavy rain extended beyond the city. Several villages in the Nagpur district have been isolated from neighboring villages and cities due to overflowing rivers. This has caused significant inconvenience to residents, disrupting transportation and access to essential services.
Efforts are ongoing to mitigate the effects of the deluge and restore normalcy to the affected areas.
