The central government has implemented a state-wise quota system for foreign scholarships from this year. This quota system hit the students of Maharashtra the most. As many as 149 eligible students from Maharashtra were disqualified due to quota system. Only 6 students from Gujarat were disqualified in this list.
For the backward students who want to study in a foreign university, foreign scholarships are organized by the social justice department of the central government as well as the state. Under this, 125 students from all over the country are given the benefit of scholarship in post graduate and PhD courses. Quota system was not applicable earlier, but from this year 10 percent quota was decided state wise. According to the global ranking of foreign universities, students are given the benefit of Scheme.
This year, 305 students from Maharashtra had applied for Post Graduate and PhD courses for this scheme. Out of which 171 students qualified while others were disqualified due to document errors. However, out of 171 eligible students, only 22 students have been given the benefit of the scheme and other 149 students, despite being eligible, could not be the beneficiaries of the scheme due to the quota system. Interestingly, nearly 100 of these students have been ranked in the top 50 universities in the world. However, he could not be the beneficiary of the sacrifice. More than 750 applications were received for the scheme from all over the country.
