Continuous heavy rainfall over the past week has caused severe flooding in the Vidarbha region, affecting the districts of Chandrapur, Amravati, and Gadchiroli. On Saturday, the Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall in Chandrapur, Gondia, and Gadchiroli districts.
The Meteorological Department has also forecast heavy rain and issued Orange Alerts for eight districts in Maharashtra, including Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Raigad, and Satara. This year, the monsoon arrived in Vidarbha a week later than usual. June saw no rainfall, and early July experienced only minimal rain, but heavy showers have occurred in the final days of July.
The relentless downpour has severely impacted agriculture, flooding farm ponds and destroying crops such as cotton and soybeans. This has resulted in significant losses for farmers in the region.
