Tigers, as apex predators, play a crucial role in maintaining our natural ecosystems, asserted Dy. Conservator of Forests and IFS officer Bharatsinh Hada. He addressed the audience as the Chief Guest during the Slogan and Banner Competition organized jointly by Rotary Club of Nagpur Elite and Asiatic Big Cat Society to mark International Tiger Day. The event took place near the tiger statue at the Institute of Science, Civil Lines, Nagpur.
Among the distinguished guests were President of Asiatic Big Cat Society Dr. Girish Gandhi, Secretary Dr. Ajay Patil from the same society, and President Dr. Sushma Deshmukh of Rotary Club Nagpur Elite.
Bharat Singh Hada highlighted the importance of protecting not just tigers but all wildlife species. He briefly explained the complexities involved in tiger census and the extensive efforts required for conservation, involving millions of people and advanced camera technologies. Dr. Girish Gandhi commended the initiative for tiger conservation and applauded the enthusiasm of all participants.
During the event’s opening remarks, Dr. Ajay Patil, Secretary of Asiatic Big Cat Society, underscored the critical role of tiger conservation and outlined the ongoing activities of the society. He stressed that safeguarding tigers ensures the safety of the entire environment and ecosystem, emphasizing the significance of the day. Given Nagpur’s status as the ‘Tiger Capital,’ he expressed the society’s commitment to raising awareness through such initiatives.
The competition saw Krishita from St. Ursula School clinch the first prize for her poster, while Anandita from Center Point School secured the second prize. Kavyansh from Center Point School received a special award for his creative message on a tiger conservation-themed umbrella. Divyanshi and Gurneet, also from Center Point School, were honored by the dignitaries present.
Participants from various schools braved the intermittent rains, displaying their enthusiasm with posters and banners advocating ‘Save the Tiger – Save the Environment.’ The creative posters and slogans, such as ‘Bagh Jungle Ki Jaan Hai Aur Bharat Ki Shaan Hai’ and ‘Hear Their Roar, As They Would Be No More,’ captured the essence of the event.
