The Municipal Nagpur Corporation (NMC) has announced plans to construct 18 new concrete roads across six municipal wards, totaling ₹46 crore. The tenders for these roads, however, lack provisions for stormwater drains.
These internal roads, affecting areas in wards 16, 17, 34, 35, 36, and 37, will be financed by legislators’ district planning funds and are expected to inconvenience local residents. Environmentalists have raised concerns about the impact on rainwater absorption and tree root systems. An online petition has been launched urging a halt to the concrete expansion.
This new project adds to nearly 40 concrete roads already under construction by various agencies, which do include stormwater drainage provisions.
