The Chief Election Officer has updated the schedule for the special brief review of photo electoral rolls. The final voter list will now be published on August 27, extended from the original date of August 20.
Citizens are invited to submit claims and objections from August 2 to August 16, according to the revised timeline. Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari has urged eligible voters to apply for new registrations, corrections, or deletions using the prescribed forms. All claims and objections will be addressed by August 26.
The revision comes in response to issues observed during the recent Lok Sabha elections, where many voters were unable to vote due to missing names on the electoral list. Data from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s office revealed that an average of 20,000 voters per assembly segment in the Nagpur constituency were disenfranchised. The Election Commission of India has mandated a thorough review of electoral rolls by district administrations to prevent such issues and ensure no voter is excluded from participating in future elections.
