A woman in the Rayatwari Colony of Chandrapur faced a shocking incident when she fell into a 20-foot ditch as she entered the house. A member of the Shiwankar family opened the lock of her front door and was shocked as she stepped in a fell into the ditch. The colony is close to Rayawari Coal Mines.
Shiwankar’s family had gone out for some personal work. They returned on Thursday around 1 pm. Sunita Shiwankar opened the door and fell into the ditch created in the living room. The rattled family shouted for help. Although Sunita was rescued with the help of a ladder, the incident raised several questions about the mining activity in Chandrapur district. Sunita received minor injuries and was shifted to a hospital.
A team of the Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) will inspect the site on Friday to find out the cause of the damage to the house.
Local people met the authorities concerned and people’s representatives. The entire colony is living in fear following the unexpected incident. Local police have also taken cognizance of the incident.
Refilling after mining coal has been a major issue in the region. The opinion of WCL authorities is awaited.
A similar incident had occurred in Ghughus in a residential area near the Industrial area in August 2022, when a 70 feet ditch was created.
