RTMNU ex-students gathering held,
Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University should become a hub for providing the most modern education in the world. The region is rich in natural resources. The university should encourage research based on minerals and their products. This was stated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Education and research in this direction should be introduced, he added.
Gadkari was speaking during a gathering of former students of the university. Former Supreme Court Judge Vikas Sirpurkar, Renowned Marathi film and stage actor Dr Girish Oak, ex-MP Dr Vikas Mahatme, Dr Chandrashekhar Meshram were the guests of honour. Officiating Vice-Chancellor Dr Prashant Bokare was in the chair.
Sports improve physic, and arts groom through culture and development achieved with the knowledge. Development can be achieved by acquiring knowledge and using it for the benefit of the society. The University should become a source of knowledge and promote technology for thr world, Gadkari said. Gadkari recalled his student days.
Justice Sirpurkar said that he feels honoured to be a student of the university which produced great individuals like social worker Baba Amte. He quoted his enrolment number with the university when he entered the university in 1962.
In her introductory remarks Secretary of the Former Students Committee Dr Kalpana Pande spoke about plans of the university. President of the Committee Dr Muralidhar Chandekar appealed to the ex-students to contribute to its development.
Dr Bokare said prominent former students in different fields act as the university’s ambassadors.
Dr Girish Oak said he discovered the field of acting in the university itself. He recalled his participating in the strike when he was a BAMS student, which helped Ayurved doctors to get jobs as medical officers in government hospitals.
