People gather near the bridge after a portion of it caved in, in Gondia district on Friday.
A small bridge on a state highway in Arjuni Morgaon tehsil, Gondia district, has collapsed, prompting a diversion of traffic on the route, officials reported.
The bridge on Navegaon-Kohalgaon-Keshori Road collapsed late Thursday night. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, according to officials.
A passerby alerted the authorities about the collapse, prompting a team of officials to visit the site. Traffic has since been redirected via Khairi-Sukdi village, an official reported.
The exact cause of the collapse is still unknown. The bridge, approximately fifty years old, had weakened over time due to its construction using outdated methods. Meanwhile, the district has experienced heavy rains over the past two weeks.
