Nishant Mridul (44), a Deputy Controller of the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), who reportedly jumped from the terrace of the seven-storey office building at CGO Complex in Seminary Hills on Monday, died at the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Mridul, an MTech graduate, worked in a section that granted approvals for specialized equipment used in the petroleum sector. PESO, headquartered in Nagpur, is the apex regulatory body for the explosives and petroleum industry in India.
On Monday, doctors reported that Nishant was brought in a poor neurological state, and the chances of his survival were slim.
Gittikhadan Police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigations. Mridul’s mobile phone, which he left on the terrace parapet wall before jumping, has been seized. Witnesses at the CGO complex suggest that Mridul may have become entangled in a wire before hitting the ground, which mitigated the impact. Wires spanning the 5th floor were found to be snapped.
