Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to clean 446 public wells in the city. A provision of Rs 1 crore 52 lakh has been made for cleaning work.
Dr. Shweta Banerjee, Superintending Engineer of Public Health and Engineering Department, said that the work of cleaning the wells has been started as per the instructions of NMC Commissioner. She said that there are 860 public wells in Nagpur city.
These wells, which come under the jurisdiction of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, are managed by 2 departments. Water Works Department 713 wells and Health Department (breeding of guppy fish) 134 wells. Out of these wells, 13 wells are in dry condition. NMC is planning to use them for groundwater recharge with the technical advice of GSDA.
