An investigation has found six medical professionals at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) culpable for the death of an intern caused by a delay in treatment. The report identifies two senior physicians, the chief medical officer (CMO), and three resident doctors as responsible for the death of Faiz Mohammad Khan, a 22-year-old intern.
Khan, who was undergoing an internship at IGGMCH, was critically injured in an accident on July 26. He was brought to the hospital’s emergency department but received no immediate treatment. Instead, he was sent to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) without the necessary documentation and subsequently died before reaching the medical ward.
Following the incident, Dean Dr. Ravi Chavan established an investigation committee, which has now concluded its inquiry.
