In a significant step towards enhancing cyber awareness among students, Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singal, the Nagpur City Police Commissioner, inaugurated the “Cyber Club” at Ramdev Baba College of Engineering, Gittikhadan. The event, held at 11:30 AM, marked the beginning of a proactive initiative aimed at bolstering cyber safety in educational institutions across Nagpur.
The Cyber Club initiative, led by Dr. Singal, is a comprehensive program designed to establish Cyber Clubs in every school and college in Nagpur city. These clubs will consist of committees with faculty members and students, with a strong emphasis on including female students to provide a safe platform for addressing issues faced by female victims of cyber crimes.
Key features of the initiative include:
- Creation of WhatsApp groups for each Cyber Club to facilitate communication and awareness among students.
- Encouragement for students to report cyber crime incidents to club members, who will then connect the victims with police officers.
- Appointment of cyber officers and personnel at each police station to act as liaison officers for the Cyber Clubs in their respective jurisdictions.
- Prompt registration of complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, with an online copy provided to the victim.
- Swift forwarding of complaints to the Cyber Police Station for further action, depending on the nature of the complaint.
- Assistance for victims in filing online complaints within 30 minutes of contacting the Cyber Club, with police support.
- Organization of awareness programs within colleges to guide students on avoiding cyber fraud.
The event commenced with an introduction by Dr. Rashmi Velekar, a faculty member of the Cyber Club. Dr. Singal elaborated on the club’s objectives and provided detailed guidance on preventing cyber crimes. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nimit Goyal, also addressed the gathering, discussing the methods employed by cybercriminals and the necessary preventive measures.
A significant highlight of the event was the formation of a 40-member Cyber Club at Ramdev Baba College of Engineering. The members were briefed on their roles and responsibilities. The program was conducted by students Vedant Naidu and Varadya Kulkarni, with Dr. Rakesh Kadu delivering the vote of thanks. The event saw the participation of officers from the Cyber Police Station, faculty members, and a large number of students.
