In a significant development, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has added electric buses to its fleet in Nagpur after a prolonged delay. The new e-buses are currently stationed at the Imamwada depot, where final documentation is in progress. Passenger services are expected to begin after August 15, with routes connecting short-distance cities.
The electric buses, featuring air conditioning and seating for 34 passengers, will serve destinations including Saoner, Ramtek, Bhandara, Jalalkheda, Hinganghat, and Wardha. The fare for these buses will align with that of Shivshahi buses, providing a quieter and smoother travel experience compared to traditional diesel vehicles. Due to their quick acceleration, these e-buses are anticipated to offer faster travel times.
Charging stations for the new e-buses have been established at the Imamwada depot. MSRTC officer Shrikant Gabhane has also announced plans to add 15 more electric buses to the fleet in the near future.
