Health care Service at Mayo GMCH has been affected after Doctors and Medical Students went on strike from Tuesday morning. Although emergency care was excluded from the strike, OPD, wards, scheduled surgeries, various check-ups were disrupted. Patients complained about delay in treatment.
Resident doctors’ association ‘Central Mard’ called a nationwide strike from Tuesday to demand a fair and transparent investigation into the incident of brutality murder of a resident woman doctor in Kolkata’s ‘RG Kar’ Medical College.
The resident doctor of Mayo and GMCH also participated in this protest. Both the hospitals had placed special responsibility on the senior resident doctors, medical officers, contract doctors so that the strike did not affect much in the patient care. Despite this, Some department’s scheduled surgeries were postponed. Meanwhile, in the morning, the resident doctors came together and staged a protest in front of the OPD.
There are a total of 1,022 resident doctors with 672 in GMCH and 350 in Mayo. Out of them 822 doctors are on strike. 200 doctors are providing emergency services.
