Nagpur Municipal Corporation released its Nagpur City Electric Vehicle Readiness Plan 2024. The plan is ambitious since it targets 40% of new EV registrations in Nagpur by 2027. The EV Readiness Plan for Nagpur was crafted with insights from more than 70 stakeholders who participated in the Nagpur City EV Accelerator Workshop led by Municipal Commissioner, Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari. This collaborative effort aims to leverage the shared experiences and lessons learned to establish a strong foundation for an all-electric mobility future in Nagpur. The Plan comprises of various initiatives at the municipal level aimed at facilitating the transition towards EV readiness.The solutions in this EV Readiness Plan focus on three areas: first-and-last-mile connectivity, charging and battery-swapping infrastructure, and public transport electrification. Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s proactive strategy sets a precedent for other cities in Maharashtra and across India. This plan highlights the potential for urban centers to lead in the adoption of sustainable transportation solutions. The EV Readiness Plan shall help various departments of NMC to work together towards an EV-enabled future.
The ceremony took place in the Commissioner’s Conference Hall at the Municipal Headquarters, attended by Additional Commissioner Mrs. Anchal Goyal, Executive Engineer Mr. Rajendra Rathod, Deputy Engineer Mr. Gajendra Tarapore, Mr. Pramod Bhasme, Junior Engineer Mr. Prashant Kalbande, Transport Administrative Officer Mr. Ravindra Page, Mechanical Engineer Mr. Yogesh Lunge, Mr. Vilas Joshi, and RMI consultants Mr. Prathamesh Modak and Mr. Swapnil Phulari.
To combat air pollution from the rising number of vehicles and to encourage the adoption of environmentally-friendly electric vehicles, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has set up a dedicated EV Cell. This cell has developed the Nagpur City EV Readiness Plan, which aims to build the necessary infrastructure for electric vehicles. The plan sets a target of achieving 40% new EV registrations in Nagpur by 2027. It was formulated based on valuable input from over 70 stakeholders who participated in the “City EV Accelerator” workshop organized by the EV Cell.
The EV Readiness Plan focuses on three key areas: end-to-end connectivity, charging and battery-swapping infrastructure, and the electrification of public transportation.
