Doctors at AIIMS Nagpur continued their indefinite strike on Wednesday, donning black armbands in solidarity with the nationwide protests ignited by the tragic rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, West Bengal. The strike, which started on Tuesday, has garnered widespread participation across the country.
In Maharashtra, approximately 8,000 resident doctors from various public hospitals have stopped working, except for emergency duties, in support of their colleagues at RG Kar Medical College. This action follows a call from the Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) to join the nationwide strike.
The protest was sparked by a call to action from the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), which on Monday demanded justice for the victim and stressed the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for healthcare professionals.
In Nagpur, the strike has gained significant momentum, with resident doctors showing strong support on its second day. The medical community remains united in calling for justice and emphasizing the urgent need for improved protection and safety for healthcare professionals.
