“Not here, just take her downstairs. Don’t you know there is a strike going on?” a resident doctor said in a stern voice, examining the patient who was gasping for air on the stretcher. “The doctors downstairs directed us here,” replied an angry Shubham Meshram as his wife Megha lay gasping for breath on the stretcher. As per local daily report, she had been rushed to GMCH from Kanhan after suddenly having trouble breathing.
At GMCH, Shubham was seen pushing his wife’s stretcher through the hospital corridors, but he received no assistance. His wife, who is battling cancer, had complained of severe breathing difficulties on Tuesday. Shubham explained their frustrating journey: “We first went to the OPD, where they told us to go to ward no. 69. When we got there, they redirected us to ward no. 85 on the second floor, but we were turned away again. After completing the paperwork on the first floor, we were sent back to ward no. 85.” Shubham was left uncertain about whether he should admit his wife to the hospital.
