The Maharashtra cabinet decided on Tuesday to concrete nearly 6,000 km of roads across the state, shifting from an earlier plan to asphalt them. The revised project will cost 37,000 crore, up from the previous estimate of around 28,500 crore for asphalting. This decision has also raised Maharashtra’s contribution under the revised Hybrid Annuity Scheme by 2,589 crore, bringing the state’s total expenditure to 11,089 crore.
These 6,000 km of roads will be handed over to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation for 17.5 years. The revised Hybrid Annuity Scheme, a public-private partnership model, is designed to accelerate infrastructure development in the state. Under this scheme, the government and private companies share both the financial burden and the risks associated with the project.
