Despite scoring 617 marks on the ‘NEET’ examination, a student’s dream of pursuing an MBBS is hindered by a condition set by the Maharashtra CET Cell. Although the student has a birth certificate, Aadhaar card, voter card, and resident certificate from Maharashtra, her application for state quota admission was disqualified because she completed her 10th from another state.
The student’s name is Manasi Chandrakant Raut. She was born in Nagpur, and her father works for a private automobile company. After Manasi completed her primary education in Nagpur, her father was transferred to Raipur, Chhattisgarh, where she completed her matriculation.
However, she completed her class 12 at Shivaji Science College in Raipur. She scored 617 marks in the NEET 2024 exam, qualifying her for admission.
However, a rule is blocking her from getting an MBBS seat under the state quota, despite her high marks.
According to the Maharashtra CET Cell’s condition, to be eligible for admission through the state quota, a student must be a resident of Maharashtra and have completed both 10th and 12th grades in the same state.
Manasi has all her citizenship certificates from Maharashtra since birth. However, her application for state quota admission was canceled because she completed her 10th grade in another state.
As per local media report, Manasi Raut explained, “My father’s transfer to Raipur required me to complete Class 10 there. Despite holding all relevant Maharashtra documents, including my birth certificate and Aadhaar card, my application for the state quota was rejected because I did my 10th grade in another state. Which state should I apply to now?”
Manasi cannot afford the high fees of the national quota or deemed universities. Maharashtra’s requirement for both 10th and 12th grades to be from the same state is unique; no other state imposes this condition. Her father told the local daily, “We’ve emailed the CET Cell commissioner for guidance and will also consider legal action for justice.”
