The contractual workers of power companies in Maharashtra have threatened to launch an indefinite strike following the inconclusive meeting between the senior officers and representatives of the workers’ unions.
About 45,000 workers on a contractual basis are working for 10 to 15 years. Their unions demanded that their services should be regularised, a hike in the basic pay and assurance of employment till the attainment of 60 years of age.
The Action Committee of various unions discussed with the senior officers of the power companies and the Principal Secretary of the Power Department Abha Shukla. The workers were represented by Krishna Bhoyar, S R Khatib, Datta Patil, and Nilesh Kharat. As the discussion failed to work out acceptable solutions to the demands, the workers threatened to launch an indefinite strike.
A morcha from Reshimbag to the residence of Energy Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be taken out on August 24, the union has informed.
