The Central Railway Nagpur Division is set to undertake urgent rehabilitation work on the Ghat Road Bridge (Rly Bridge No 835/1), a nearly 100-year-old stone masonry arch bridge with five spans, each measuring 9.14 meters. This essential work is in accordance with the scheduled inspections and compliance reports that have highlighted the need for immediate attention.
The Ghat Road Bridge is a critical link in the train route that connects the East-West and North-South directions. Due to various incidents of spalling concrete and the opening of joints in the masonry, which have been promptly addressed, a comprehensive strengthening of the bridge is now necessary. This decision follows detailed audit reports conducted after thorough inspections.
Strengthening work on the three spans that serve as a waterway has already been completed. The remaining two spans, Span No. 1 and Span No. 2, which serve as roadways, are now the focus of the rehabilitation efforts.
For Span No. 2, the Central Railway has received permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Nagpur, on 20th August 2024, to proceed with the strengthening work. This permission is valid until 30th September 2024. During this period, traffic in both directions will be allowed through Span No. 1. To minimize congestion, commuters are advised to use the alternative routes available, including the Anand Talkies-Vijay Talkies connecting subway and the Loha Pul Old and Loha Pul New Metro subway, each offering two roadways.
The Central Railway Nagpur Division urges the public to cooperate during this period of necessary construction to ensure the safety and longevity of the bridge. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and assure that all efforts are being made to complete the work within the stipulated time.
