The Bombay High Court has said that no political party has the right to call Maharashtra Bandh. Id any such call is given action against the party may be initiated.
The decision was given following a petition filed against the Maharashtra Bandh call given by the Maha-Vikas Aghadi on August 24, to protest the sexual abuse of minor girls in Badlapur of Thane districts.
Adv Gunaratna Sadavarte and others moved the High Court against the Bandh call, which was heard on Friday.
The court said that nobody has the right to give such a call. Legal action can be initiated against the party or parties giving such a call.
Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan, however, said that MVA is firm on its Bandh call and will be observed peacefully.
The court has the power to call any Bandh illegal, as common people are made to suffer. Any person causing damage to public property or harassing any person will face action.
