A retired Public Works Department (PWD) engineer, Toliram Phulaji Rathod, has been accused of embezzling Rs 42 lakh from government funds during his tenure in Nagpur. Rathod, who resides in N4/F-115, CIDCO, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, allegedly committed the fraud while serving as a Sub-Divisional Engineer at the PWD office on Link Road, Sadar, between August 25, 2009, and June 7, 2011.
The allegations stem from a complaint filed by Junior Engineer Sachin Ramdas Bhongale, who claims that Rathod withdrew ₹42 lakh through three cheques between December 7 and December 12, 2009, during the assembly session of that year. The funds, which were supposedly allocated for certain projects, were reportedly misused, with no official records or documentation to support the expenditures. Rathod is accused of diverting the funds for personal gain, defrauding the government in the process.
Following an investigation, Rathod has been charged under Section 409 of the BNS at Sadar Police Station.
