Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singhal held a meeting on Tuesday with over 100 Sarafa traders and the Sarafa Association to address their concerns. Key issues discussed included the handling of stolen gold, the effectiveness of the Vigilance Committee, and the increasing threat of cybercrime.
Traders expressed frustration over the police recovering excess gold during investigations and the lack of clarity on ongoing cases. They also raised concerns about the transportation of unproven suspects in police vehicles, which damages reputations. The traders requested more frequent meetings, better police presence in the Sarafa market, and assistance in combating fraudulent calls.
Commissioner Singhal assured traders that the police would avoid any harassment and improve the Vigilance Committee’s operations. He emphasized the importance of traders verifying customer identities and installing CCTV systems. The police are also using advanced technology to enhance investigations. The meeting was attended by senior police officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police Ashwati Dorje and Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Patil.
