The students of The Achievers School ‘Explorers House of Grade 8’ organized a special assembly to celebrate National Sports Day on August 29, which also marks the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. This day, first celebrated in 2012, is dedicated to promoting the significance of sports and physical activity in daily life.
National Sports Day aims to raise awareness about the values of sports, including discipline, perseverance, sportsmanship, and teamwork. It encourages people to integrate sports into their lives and emphasizes the importance of maintaining fitness and health.
During the assembly, students presented a skit in which they role-played various sports personalities and highlighted the importance of sports. The students involved in the skit included Miss Toshita Meharkar, Miss Navya Sarode, Miss Twisha Pushty, Mast. Shreyansh Gupta, Mast. Tulya Mohane, Miss Priyanka Avhad, Mast. Parth Daf, Miss Swara Sheladia, and Miss Arthsha Wagde.
In addition to the school assembly, an online event was held featuring Chief Guest Mr. Anup Deshmukh, a renowned Indian chess player and International Master. Mr. Deshmukh addressed the students, sharing his experiences and inspiring them to excel in their chosen sports. He spoke about the challenges he faced during his early years, including being punished for missing school to participate in tournaments, even after defeating famous chess grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand. Mr. Deshmukh emphasized that today’s youth have better facilities, infrastructure, and support, with even corporate sectors encouraging sports participation.
