In a late-night accident on Sunday, a young couple sustained injuries after their speeding SUV collided with the height barrier’s left pedestal on the Rahate Colony side of the Gowari Flyover. The incident occurred as the driver, operating the Mahindra XUV 700 (MH49 BW 88), lost control while traveling at high speed.
The vehicle, which had visible signs of alcohol consumption, including a liquor bottle and broken glasses, was driven by a man believed to be intoxicated. Witnesses reported that the couple was returning from a party on Wardha Road and that a last-minute decision to either take the flyover or the slip lane may have contributed to the crash.
Despite the deployment of the vehicle’s airbags, the occupants sustained facial injuries. They were transported to a nearby private hospital in an e-rickshaw that happened to be passing by. The SUV, registered under Shivprasad Ghasiram Thakur, sustained extensive damage.
The Bajaj Nagar police have arrived at the scene and are investigating the incident. This accident underscores the dangers of high-speed driving and intoxication, particularly on city roads and flyovers where inadequate lighting and lack of speed monitoring increase risks.
