Wockhardt Hospitals Nagpur is a leading healthcare provider with a tradition of care and innovation that makes this hospital a boon for patients in Central India. At Wockhardt hospital ,Nagpur which handles critical patients, there was an innovative angioplasty done to save the life of a senior citizen Patient .
A 68 yrs old hypertensive, diabetic gentleman post bypass surgery (12 yearrs back) with chest pain and impending heart attack came to Wockhardt Hospitals,Shankar Nagar, Nagpur and was seen by Dr. Nitin Tiwari (Sr. Interventional Cardiologist).Dr.Nitin Tiwari (Sr. Interventional Cardiologist) working with Wockhardt Hospitals since last 20 years evaluated the above patient and took him for Angiography.
Dr. Nitin Tiwari (Sr. Interventional Cardiologist) said that,One of the grafts (LIMA to LAD) of male patient was working fine and the other graft (LRA to OM) was having 99% blockage. He had to undergo Emergency Angioplasty with DEB (Drug eluting balloon) to the LRA graft. But to cannulate the graft a special short catheter (80 cm long) is needed. The usual catheters for Angioplasty are 100 cm long.Usually IMA catheters are used for bypass graft angioplasties. This catheter was not available anywhere and the patient had an impending heart attack, hence it was not advisable to wait for too long.
At this critical Juncture,Dr. Nitin Tiwari decided to devise a new catheter. He cut the shaft of one 6 French catheter and hub of another 7 French catheter and joined them to devise a new hybrid catheter. This shorter catheter was used to engage the LIMA and LRA graft and later Drug Eluting Balloons were inflated and patient was relieved of his symptoms and his life was saved.
Dr. Nitin Tiwari said No doubt, “Necessity is the mother of invention”.Dr. Nitin Tiwari thanked his cathlab staff,Dr.Pankaj Jain Choudhary(Sr. Anaesthesist) for their useful inputs and also Centre Head Mr. Ravi Bagali for his help.
Mr Ravi B.,Center Head, Wockhardt Hospitals Nagpur, said, “This was really a challenging case. But our doctor expert team did it very accurately and the patient was saved.
