Upholding a tradition that dates back to 1708, the Ganesh idol has been installed at Senior Bhonsla Palace for the 316th consecutive year. The custom, established by Raje Mudhoji Maharaj Bhonsale, involves the ceremonial arrival of the idol in a palanquin.
One of the unique aspects of this tradition is that the idol has retained the same size, color, and appearance throughout the centuries. The Ganesh idol is adorned with a traditional Bhonsale-era turban featuring a sirpej (ornamental crest), symbolizing its historical significance. The idol is carried in a palanquin both during the installation and on the immersion day, continuing this long-standing legacy.
