The Centre on Friday expanded the Digi Yatra facility to nine more airports, bringing the total to 24 airports across the country. This digital platform simplifies the process of managing multiple documents for millions of travelers. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the Digi Yatra facility at Visakhapatnam International Airport and virtually launched it at eight other airports: Coimbatore, Dabolim, Indore, Bagdogra, Ranchi, Patna, Raipur, and Bhubaneswar.
Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu emphasized how Digi Yatra simplifies the airport process by managing boarding passes, ID proofs, and luggage tags, easing passenger navigation through crowded terminals. “Airport entry time has been reduced from an average of 15 seconds with manual procedures to just 5 seconds with Digi Yatra. The app has been downloaded by over 5.5 million users, and more than 30 million passengers have utilized it for their travels,” Minister Naidu reported. Since the launch of Digi Yatra at New Delhi, Varanasi, and Bengaluru airports on December 1, 2022, the number of Digi Yatra-enabled airports has now grown to 24.
“The introduction of Digi Yatra was timely, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic when minimizing physical contact became more crucial than ever,” said the minister.
Digi Yatra provided contactless and paperless processing at key airport checkpoints.
Since its inception, the system has helped save thousands of sheets of paper daily at airports, supporting the broader goal of sustainable development in the aviation sector, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Digi Yatra helps travellers in passing through airport checkpoints with paperless and contactless processing, using facial recognition to verify their identity and travel details.
